FINISH
DIFFERENT FINISHESWhen you look at the packaging of tights you will find a variety of different terms used to describe what the finish is, for example; shiny, slight sheen, gloss, matt, shimmer.... We found this confusing, therefore we have examined all the products that we sell at MyTights and put them all into one of the four categories below going from matte tights to the most shiny tights, which makes it simpler to know what you are buying as well as making it much easier to compare one product against another!

Matte
Matte tights are, as you would expect, completely matt with no shine whatsoever!
Matte tights are both understated and flattering, plus they won’t draw too much attention to your legs as they give a completely flat look on your leg. Matte opaques are a particular favourite at MyTights as well as with the press. Slight Sheen
Hosiery with a Slight sheen has just a hint of shine rather than being completely matt. The slight sheen will give a softer outline to your legs as they do not give such a flat appearance as matt tights. Suitable for every day and very elegant for the evening, particularly in sheer styles.
Shiny
Shiny hosiery has an obvious shine to it and very much catches the light. Shiny hosiery also feels smooth and silky on your legs. Great for special occasions, but can also be worn everyday. Shiny hosiery will draw even more attention to your legs as the light reflects off the hosiery, defining the shape of your legs. Shiny tights aren't great if you want to go for the "bare leg look" or don't want to draw too much attention to your legs!
Very Shiny
Very shiny is how we describe products such as Wet Look and other hosiery that is very glossy. Similar to shiny hosiery items but even glossier! Very shiny tights will reflect the light, drawing attention to your legs. Very shiny hosiery will also highlight your legs and make them stand out.
GUSSETCotton GussetCotton gussets improve comfort and fit - plus as the cotton is breathable they’re great for personal hygiene. You can tell if a product has a cotton gusset by the looking for a white circular patch of fabric at the top of the tights where the legs join. Some tights might have a similar looking gusset made from other materials. If you want to check that that product you like has a cotton gusset, look at the fabric content of the tights, as it will usually say 1% cotton when it's a cotton gusset. GussetSimilar to a cotton gusset, a plain gusset will improve comfort and fit, however, as it isn’t made from cotton you won’t have the same hygiene benefits.Plain gussets can come in various colours, including white. If you’re uncertain if your gusset is cotton or not try checking the fabric content of the tights - if there is no mention of cotton, then it will be a plain gusset. No GussetNot all tights will have a gusset, instead, the thickness of the fabric will remain the same around the top of the legs and waist. These tights will have a straight seam and some may even have a seam that’s been sewn into a gusset V shape.Open GussetAn open gusset means that the tights will have an open hole where the gusset would usually be. This is great for keeping cool and fresh, plus for hygiene reasons. An alternative for those who would prefer an open gusset would be to try stay up tights instead.
